Early Thursday morning, a tragic single-vehicle accident on the Alaska Highway claimed the lives of a woman and her dog.
At 6:24 a.m. on June 11, 2026, Northern Rockies RCMP responded to an abandoned 9-1-1 call and crash detection alert pointing to Highway 97 North near Klua Lakes.
First responders found a Kenworth flat deck truck overturned, with the 52-year-old Edmonton driver and her dog ejected from the vehicle.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
While the exact cause is still under investigation, evidence suggests an over-correction may have led to the rollover.
The driver’s family has been notified, and police are asking anyone with information, CCTV, or dash cam footage to contact Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.
