Starting April 1, FortisBC customers in Hudson’s Hope, Fort Nelson, Mackenzie, and Prince George will see a drop in their natural gas bills.
The British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) approved a rate cut from $2.23 to $1.66 per gigajoule (GJ). For the average household using 7.5 GJ, this translates to a savings of roughly $4.15 per month. Those in the voluntary Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) program will also see their rate decrease to $8.66 per GJ.
Joe Mazza, the company's VP of energy supply, noted that the drop should help ease budget pressures, though he encouraged customers to continue using energy-efficiency programs to manage long-term costs.
