Major crime unit called after deadly ‘altercation’ in Charlie Lake

The B.C. RCMP North District Major Crime Unit has been dispatched to Charlie Lake, just outside Fort St. John, after an incident that left one person dead Friday night.

Mounties from the Fort St. John detachment were called to the Charlie Lake boat ramp around 11:10 p.m on Friday., the major crime unit said in a news release Saturday.

“Police learned that several people had been involved in an altercation, during which one person sustained serious injuries,” the statement reads.

“The injured individual was transported to hospital by friends but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.”

Police did not specify how many people were involved, how the injuries were sustained, or the gender of the deceased.

The major crime unit said its investigators believe “this was an isolated incident.”

“The area around the boat ramp will be closed for several hours while investigators process the scene and gather evidence,” police said.

“The investigation is in its early stages, and no further details are being released at this time.”
