The Métis Nation of British Columbia has reinstated its President, following complaints about his behaviour.
Walter Mineault from Dawson Creek was elected president in September 2024. The MNBC Executive Committee said in August, Mineault’s behaviour had been inconsistent with the Nation’s policies since elected.
The committee said members of the public brought information forward to the Executive for consideration, and an independent review of Mineault’s time as president would be conducted.
The committee at the time said the results of that review will be made public.
“After much consideration and clarification of the MNBC Constitution, the Board determined it needed to take the necessary steps to move forward. The Board will work together with President Mineault to strengthen the Nation. We are committed to upholding fair process as outlined in our Constitution and strengthening our governance,” said the Metis Nation in a press release.
The Board will also work with the Senate to continue mediation between President Mineault and the Board, to help resolve differences and find common ground.
