The Peace River Regional District has approved $500,000 in funding for the fire hall expansion project in Pouce Coupe. According to the PRRD’s latest board meeting report, $250,000 will go toward the engineered design, covering architectural planning before construction begins, while the other $250,000 will fund the expansion itself.
Fire officials stated the project is still in the early stages and plan to include a new training area, as firefighters currently use the kitchen for workouts. They also hope to add a decontamination area to clean their gear after calls.
The Village of Pouce Coupe expressed gratitude to the PRRD for its support, calling it an important opportunity to enhance emergency response, meet new service demands, and honor the dedication of the Pouce Coupe Volunteer Fire Department. The village is currently evaluating design options, funding models, and partnerships to improve emergency services across the region.
Fire officials noted construction likely won’t start for at least three years, emphasizing that the expansion is long overdue. Fire Chief Blair Deveau praised the firefighters’ dedication, highlighting their commitment to being ready, certified, and confident when the community needs them.
