Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for parts of the South Peace region.

The warning covers B.C.’s South Peace River near Tumbler Ridge, where forecasters expect 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is possible by Friday evening.

The heaviest snowfall is anticipated along the Rocky Mountains of the South Peace, including Tumbler Ridge, as a weather system brings northerly winds and cooler air. Officials caution that travel conditions will likely worsen as snow builds up on roads and walkways, with reduced visibility at times.

Snowfall totals could be higher in southern and southwestern areas.

Argo Road Maintenance reports that Highway 29 North and South and the Pine Pass will also be affected, with rapidly changing conditions.

This marks the first major snowfall of the season for parts of Northeast B.C., prompting residents and motorists to prepare for winter driving.

Dawson Creek and Fort St. John may see rain mixed with wet snow on Friday, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries Saturday.

Argo advises drivers to allow extra travel time, be ready for snow-covered, slushy or slippery roads, and reduced visibility, and to watch for crews, give them space, and drive according to conditions.
