FORT NELSON — The Annual Northern Rockies Motorcycle Toy Run returns this Sept.
Organizer Ken Johnson is hosting the community event for his 12th year.
"I took over the Toy Run from the HOG (Harley Owners Group) in 2014," Johnson said. Riders will begin gathering at 11 a.m. in the east side parking lot of Boston Pizza.
The ride begins at noon sharp. Each year, riders arrive with toys strapped to their bikes.
The group then embarks on a one-hour ride along the Alaska Highway. Turnout depends heavily on the local weather. Some years see six or seven bikes. Other years bring out 30 to 40 riders.
After the ride, participants enjoy fresh pizza provided by Boston Pizza. Johnson calls the food a major highlight of the day. Following the meal, volunteers pack the toys into Johnson's pickup truck.
He delivers them directly to the Fort Nelson Family Development Society. The society distributes the gifts to local children during the upcoming holiday season. "No child should be without a new toy at Christmas," Johnson said.
The event relies on strong local partnerships. This year's official sponsors include: Boston Pizza. Pet Pa's Food & Accessories, and the Fort Nelson Family Development Society.
