RCMP say two people have been arrested in a northern B.C. drug-trafficking scheme that is alleged to be associated with organized crime groups. The two have since been release while the investigation continues, police added.
No charges have yet been approved and therefore, names have not been released.
The release says that on July 30, Fort St. John RCMP’s street enforcement team began a drug-trafficking investigation.
The investigation led to the identifying of individuals from the Lower Mainland believed to be involved in the sale of illicit drugs and connected with organized crime groups.
Police say that through the investigation, officers gathered evidence that allegedly showed the suspects were “actively involved in drug trafficking within the community.”
The two were then arrested.
Fort St. John RCMP then obtained a search warrant for a hotel room where the suspects were staying.
During the search, police seized multiple packages of suspected illicit drugs that were pre-packaged for sale, a “quantity” of Canadian currency and a loaded glock handgun equipped with an extended magazine. RCMP added that additional evidence “consistent with drug trafficking” was also found.
