A wildfire burning in a remote area of northeast British Columbia has grown to nearly 78 hectares since it was first discovered last week.
The BC Wildfire Service says the blaze, located about two kilometres east of the Kahntah River, was discovered on July 23.
The lightning-caused wildfire is in a remote area more than 100 kilometres east of Prophet River.
The wildfire service says the fire remains classified as out of control.
An out-of-control designation means the wildfire is spreading, or is expected to spread, beyond its current perimeter or established control lines.
Despite its growth since being discovered, the BC Wildfire Service says suppression efforts are underway to limit the fire’s spread.
There are currently no area restrictions associated with the wildfire, and officials say the incident is not affecting nearby communities.
The fire is one of seven wildfires burning across northern BC. The other six are all classified as either under control or being held.
