Fort Simpson under evacuation order...

Fort Simpson residents are required to evacuate the area immediately due to a wildfire.

Fire Status: Out Of Control

Evacuation Notices, Alerts, or Orders:- Evacuation Alert still in effect.

Location:- 7 km west of the Fort Simpson Airport

Fire Size:- 420 hectares as of 1300 June 28

The increase in size reflects growth over the last 48 hours. This is the first time a perimeter has been mapped since the initial response and is a rough perimeter track from the air.

Weather Conditions:Dry conditions continue today. Wildfire smoke is expected into the evening. A high of 35 degrees and a minimum relative humidity of 20% expected. Winds from the southeast at 15 km/h, gusting 30 km/h.

Incident Status :- The fire has not made any significant growth towards Fort Simpson today, June 28. Growth over the last 48 hours has been towards the west, away from town.- Fort Simpson evacuation alert remains in place and will be extended daily until the immediate threat is eliminated. Online updates from the village can be expected daily at 10 am and 5 pm.- No losses of infrastructure or structures reported at this time.

Incident Actions:- Airtankers and helicopters are hitting priority areas on the northern and northeast perimeter to suppress growth toward the community. - As a precautionary measure, structure protection will be deployed with the support of a Wildland Urban Interface team on the Wild Rose area of the community. - Due to wildfire activity and limited safe access into the fireground no ground crews are working on the fire today.

Be Prepared:Residents can expect to see smoke and increased aircraft activity and wildland firefighters in the area while operations continue.

Please stay clear of the area and give firefighters and aircraft the space they need to safely and effectively respond to the fire
