June 23rd marked the warmest day on record for two northeast communities.
A hot spell continues across much of the province.
Residents in northeast B.C. are enjoying summer‑like weather, with temperatures climbing into the high 20s before shifting toward more unsettled conditions.
Dawson Creek hit 27 C, breaking the 2002 record of 26 C, while Fort St. John set a new high of 28 C, surpassing the 1958 record of 27 C.
Fort Nelson reached 31 C, just shy of its 1955 record of 32 C.
Forecasters expect a mix of sun and cloud mid-week, with possible afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
Highs around 28 C are predicted for Dawson Creek and Fort St. John on Wednesday, well above the usual late-June average of about 20 C.
The heat is expected to ease by the weekend, dropping to the low 20s with more widespread showers, while Fort Nelson should stay in the mid- to upper-20s.
Though warm, this week’s temperatures are far below the extreme highs of nearly 39 C seen in Dawson Creek & Fort Nelson during the 2021 heat wave.
Weather officials note that while heat and instability could spark localized storms, no severe weather alerts were in effect as of Tuesday evening.
