The province has announced a big new investment in reforestation and habitat restoration.

This new funding will help rebuild forests across British Columbia, including wildfire-affected areas in the northeast.

A recent government update says B.C. will contribute over $155 million, with federal funds bringing the total to more than $355 million.

The money will go toward large-scale tree planting, wildfire recovery, and habitat restoration, with efforts focused on replanting trees and restoring vegetation to reflect natural ecosystems and protect species at risk.

In northeast B.C., a new investment is set to help restore landscapes damaged by recent wildfires.

The province plans to plant tens of millions of trees in affected areas, aiming to regenerate forests and promote long-term sustainability.

In Fort Nelson First Nation territory, one project will see over 450,000 seedlings planted to bring back boreal habitat along seismic lines in the region. The broader funding package also includes targeted habitat restoration work, with millions of additional trees planned to support ecosystems and protect wildlife across B.C.

Provincial officials say the investment builds on existing programs that already plant tens of millions of trees annually, with plans to plant more than 48 million seedlings through the Forest Investment Program in 2026 alone.

The province adds the goal is not only to restore forests after wildfire damage, but also to strengthen ecosystems and support forestry jobs in communities throughout British Columbia, including the Peace Region.
