A 17-year-old has been seriously injured after falling from a cliff near Tumbler Ridge.
It happened over the weekend, according to the RCMP.
Kris Clark, the senior media relations officer with the RCMP, says police received a report just before 2 p.m. on Saturday of a hiker who had fallen near the Murray River.
Investigators say the teen had apparently lost their balance and tumbled down the cliff.
Search and Rescue crews were called in to assist, successfully extracting the injured youth from the area. The teen was then airlifted to hospital in Fort St. John with serious injuries.
Officials have not released further details on the teen’s condition or identity.
The incident serves as a reminder for outdoor enthusiasts across northeast B.C., including those heading out near Tumbler Ridge and along remote trails in the region, to use caution when hiking in steep or uneven terrain.
