The provincial winners have been announced for the annual Kraft Hockeyville contest, and Tumbler Ridge will represent British Columbia.

The Tumbler Ridge Community Centre has advanced to the next round, along with one arena from each of the other 12 provinces and territories.

Tumbler Ridge was nominated after the recent mass shooting claimed the life of one hockey player and left another fighting for her life.

Each community will receive at least $50,000 in arena upgrades in this year’s 20th edition of Kraft Hockeyville.

Two finalists will be announced on March 21 and will go head-to-head for a grand prize of $250,000 and an NHL preseason game. The runner-up will receive $100,000 in arena upgrades.

Public voting will open at the beginning of April to determine the winning arena. Over the past 20 years, $5.4 million has been awarded to 105 communities across Canada. Only three BC communities have won the competition, including Terrace in 2009.
