Six Royal Canadian Air Force helicopters to transit from Edmonton, Alberta, to Fort Wainwright, Alaska

January 22, 2026 – Kingston, Ont. – National Defence/Canadian Armed Forces

Six CH-146 Griffon helicopters from 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron will transit from Edmonton, Alberta to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, from January 26 to 28, 2026. The aircraft are participating in Exercise STRIKING BAT, a large-scale, multinational combat training event designed to prepare military forces for operations in Arctic and sub-Arctic environments.

The exercise will take place at the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center in Alaska and runs from January 28 to February 28, 2026. It focuses on realistic training that replicates large-scale combat conditions and involves 1 Wing personnel working alongside United States Army aviation units and other international partners, including Norway, Italy, and Mongolia.

The aircraft will operate at altitudes no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route. Flight activities may generate unfamiliar noise and attract the attention of local residents.

Royal Canadian Air Force flights are meticulously planned and closely monitored to ensure public safety, with operations contingent on weather and flying conditions. We appreciate the community’s understanding and ongoing support.
