Zachery Hawk Burns King won’t be serving prison time after Crown Prosecutors reached a deal giving him three years’ probation.
The Crown said the incident happened between July 23 and October 30, 2023, in the Montney area, with a publication ban issued to protect the victim’s identity.
In Fort St. John court on Tuesday, King pleaded guilty to making harassing communication, leading the prosecutor to drop a charge of invitation to sexual touching involving someone under 16.
The judge handed down a conditional discharge alongside probation.
The BC Prosecution Service noted that plea deals help reduce trauma for victims and witnesses while streamlining the justice process, and said the court found the discharge to be in King’s best interest without going against the public interest.
