Well known criminal back behind bars...

A Dawson Creek man with a long and violent criminal record is back in custody.

The RCMP say Jesse Ray Stevens was arrested on an outstanding warrant and is now facing eight new charges, including discharging a firearm, two counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited, and possession of body armor.

The charges stem from an alleged shots-fired incident in June on the 900-block of 91A Avenue in Dawson Creek. A witness said they saw Stevens outside the liquor store at Dawson Creek Mall and gave police his description and details of the vehicle he left in. The witness noted he was wearing an eyepatch, the result of a serious eye injury from an altercation months earlier.

Stevens was arrested the following day by an RCMP officer.

Known well to police, Stevens was previously accused in November 2023 of breaking into a home on 6th Street and 97th Avenue and was charged in May 2024 with attempted murder and robbery.

Despite concerns for public safety from the Crown Prosecutor and former MLA Mike Bernier, Judge David Ruse granted Stevens bail after he had been on the run for four months.

In June this year, CJDC TV reported those attempted murder and robbery charges were dropped when a witness refused to testify.
