A Dawson Creek mother is speaking out after disturbing allegations emerged against a local school bus driver.

Fearing retribution, she’s chosen to remain anonymous but told CJDC TV News her child and other students have been left shaken.

She claims the driver has used vulgar, derogatory language around the kids, and last Friday allegedly threatened to leave them in a snowbank during -20-degree weather. In another incident, she says the driver was speeding before slamming on the brakes, causing her child to hit their head and complain of headaches, while another student was thrown from her seat and injured her back.

According to the school principal, similar behavior has been occurring since at least the start of the school year.

The district has suspended the driver for two days, but the mother fears they’ll be back on the job by Wednesday. She says parents haven’t been informed, accusing School District 59 of prioritizing the employee’s protection over student safety.

The district maintains it takes all allegations seriously but declined to comment further, citing confidentiality. Dawson Creek RCMP confirm they are aware of the claims.
