Treacherous driving conditions across Northeast BC led to accidents and the closure of Alaska Highway on Monday.
Highway 97 was closed at kilometre 238, south of Buckinghorse River, due to an accident.
Reports online said the collision involved two semis just north of Mae’s Kitchen. However, we were not able to confirm that information in time for publishing.
Public Services and Procurement Canada has issued a travel advisory Monday morning for the stretch between Wonowon and the Yukon border.
The agency said blowing snow could reduce visibility and advise drivers to watch for wildlife and for crews and equipment working on the highway.
No information was released about the severity of the accident or when Highway 97 will reopen. News97.ca is expecting an update at approx. 8 a.m. on Dec 9.
Drive BC also reported a major accident on highway 97 in the Pine Pass area, about 23 kilometres south of Chetwynd.
Travel and weather advisories remain in effect in the area, as driving conditions are also being affected by blowing snow.
