Dawson Creek is pressing ahead with plans to tackle the ongoing drought impacting its water supply.
The Emergency Overland Water Transfer process is moving forward, with the city mapping out the route for hoses to draw water from the Peace River.
This involves detailed planning, engineering checks, and securing safe crossings like culverts and CN Rail approvals.
A permit for short-term water use under BC’s Water Sustainability Act has been requested, and work will begin once it’s approved.
Hoses will only be set up when necessary, ensuring cost efficiency and responsible use of resources.
Thanks to conservation efforts and better weather, the situation has improved since the emergency began, but the city remains under a State of Local Emergency until at least December 9.
