Three people are facing charges following a firearms investigation in Fort Smith.

On November 15, RCMP responded to a report of someone with a firearm on Whippoorwill Crescent.

Officers attended, resolved the situation, and seized the firearm. Further investigation uncovered additional firearms offences at the same location involving other suspects.

A search warrant led to the seizure of 16 firearms, many improperly stored and loaded. As a result, 68-year-old Leonard Cardinal, 47-year-old Darrell Cardinal, and 23-year-old Keigan Cardinal were charged with careless storage of firearms.

Keigan also faces charges for possessing a firearm without a licence, careless handling, and two counts of failing to comply with probation. Darrell faces additional charges including possessing a firearm without a licence, careless handling, uttering threats, possession contrary to a prohibition order, pointing a firearm, and assault with a weapon. Darrell was remanded into custody, while Leonard and Keigan were released pending future court appearances.
