Dawson Creek has once again extended its State of Local Emergency (SOLE) due to the ongoing drought impacting the city’s water supply.
The declaration, renewed on November 11, will remain in effect until at least November 25. The city’s Emergency Operations Centre, activated in October, has been working on permits to temporarily pump water from the Peace River into the current reservoir.
The SOLE was first declared on October 13 and renewed on October 29 when the Kiskatinaw River was at risk of freezing, which would have left the city relying entirely on its reservoir.
Officials say the Peace River is a more secure water source than the Kiskatinaw, and Stage 3 Water Conservation measures have been in place since early September.
