A missing person investigation was launched but was not located.
Years after Raymond Chalifoux was reported missing in 2015, his remains were discovered in the Peace Region of British Columbia.
Chalifoux disappeared on May 25, 2015, after leaving Fort St. John Hospital against medical advice. A significant missing person investigation was launched at the time, but he was never found.
On June 8, 2026, human remains were located along the Peace River near Old Fort, BC, prompting an investigation by RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
On October 19, the BC Coroners Service notified the Fort St. John RCMP that the remains belonged to Chalifoux.
“Although this is not the outcome anyone wished for, identifying Mr. Chalifoux and providing answers after more than 11 years offers some closure to a long-standing missing person case,” said Sgt. Ian Rissanen of the Fort St. John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.
Police do not suspect any criminal activity in Chalifoux’s death.
