A grand jury in Washington state indicted 30-year-old James Bryant.
The alleged co-conspirator in the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., is expected to enter a plea today during an arraignment at a Seattle courthouse.
Bryant faces charges of conspiracy to murder individuals in a foreign country.
According to the criminal complaint, Bryant, who uses female pronouns and goes by the name Melody, collaborated online with shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar to set up an attempted livestream of the attack.
The complaint also alleges Bryant advised the 18-year-old on where to carry out the assault and sent money to purchase a lighter for an explosive device.
Last February, Van Rootselaar killed eight people, including five students and an educational assistant at a local secondary school, before taking his own life as police closed in.
Bryant has been denied bail.
According to a statement from the U.S. Justice Department, conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country carries a potential sentence of up to life in prison, though it emphasizes that the allegations against Bryant have not yet been proven.
