Fort St. James RCMP investigating suspected homicide of 77-year-old man

The suspected homicide of a 77-year-old man in Fort St. James that took place in the early morning of Monday, Sept. 14 is now under investigation by the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit.

Fort St. James RCMP arrived at the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m. after reports of a “disturbance” at a home on the 800-block of BC Spruce Road.

When officers arrived at the home, they found a 77-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.

The man was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services personnel in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Suspects fled the scene before police arrived.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken control of the investigation and is now being deployed to Fort St. James.

“Anyone with any information about the man’s death who has yet to speak with investigators is urged to contact police immediately,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. “While the information I can share is limited, this appears to be an isolated and targeted incident.”

The investigation is said to be in its early stages and no further information is available at this time.
