Unchallenged incumbent Rob Fraser remains Northern Rockies Mayor

Northern Rockies Regional Municipality Mayor will continue in his role.

4 p.m. was the deadline for nominations in the local general elections. As of 4pm on Sept 11, 2026, incumbent Mayor Rob Fraser was unchallenged for the Mayor seat.

The road for the Mayor through his first term was not exactly a tip-toe through the tulips, with the usual basket full of typical municipal issues to deal with, but also the 2024 evacuation of the community due to wildfires.

Some in the community disagreed with the decision to evacuate Fort Nelson and those persons believed a new mayor was likely. Despite that, no challenge to the Mayor seat was made. It is the opinion of others that the Mayor did what was prudent and necessary given the circumstances at the time.

11 nominations have been received for the six councillor seats.

They are:

Melinda T Belleau

Bruce L Deinstadt

Kim C Eglinski

Brenda M Enax

Ivan Kortchevich

Wayne R Kushnerek

Ian D Langstaff

Danny J Soles

Norm J Thompson

Andrea L Warren

Douglas J Whitehorne Sr

Incumbent nominations include Brenda Enax and Danny Soles. Kim Eglinski served as councillor for the municipality prior to 2022.

Eligible voters in the community estimated at 2,929.

Advanced voting will take place in the community on Wed, October 7, 2026 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Community Hall, Recreation Centre, 5500 Alaska Hwy with regular voting day scheduled for Oct 17 from 8a to 8p.
