Fort St. John RCMP say one man has been arrested and more suspects are at large after a targeted drive-by shooting in the northeast B.C. city on Wednesday. Officers were called to a residential neighbourhood in the city's northwest after police say a black sedan and a pedestrian exchanged gunfire just before 9 p.m. local time on July 22.
Five homes and one vehicle were hit by the gunfire, while the pedestrian was later found with a gunshot wound and taken to hospital before being arrested and released into police custody, according to RCMP.
Police say the pedestrian has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and remains in custody.
The shooting brought a large police presence to the area of 112th Avenue and 108th Street in the city's affluent Finch neighbourhood, which includes a nearby elementary school.
Fort St. John RCMP say the serious crimes unit, drug unit, police dog service and forensic investigators were brought in to investigate.
They're asking the public for help finding a black 2016 Subaru Legacy believed to have been involved in the shooting before fleeing the area. It has B.C. licence plate A029WA.
"An abundance of physical evidence was located throughout the scene," Sgt. Ian Rissanen said in a statement.
"It should only be a matter of time until we identify and locate the occupants of the suspect car that fled."
Anyone with information is asked to not approach and call 911.
