A Canadian Extreme Heat Warning is issued when forecast temperatures...

Environment Canada has issued widespread heat warnings across the country, with orange and yellow alerts in place for areas like Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and parts of the Northwest Territories as temperatures and humidex values climb to dangerous levels.

Some regions could see highs up to 37°C, with humidex readings over 40, making it feel even hotter.

Orange alerts signal major impacts lasting several days, while yellow alerts indicate moderate, localized effects.

In southern Ontario, daytime highs are forecast at 30–36°C with warm nights offering little relief.

Extreme Heat Warnings are issued when high temperatures and humidex levels pose serious health risks for multiple days, especially for vulnerable groups like seniors, infants, outdoor workers, those with chronic illnesses, and people without air conditioning.

The humidex combines temperature and humidity to reflect how hot it feels, with readings over 40 causing high discomfort and over 46 considered dangerous. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, from dehydration and exhaustion to life-threatening heat stroke.

Warning signs include dizziness, nausea, confusion, rapid heartbeat, and changes in sweating.

To stay safe, drink water often, seek air-conditioned spaces, avoid outdoor activity during peak heat, wear lightweight clothing, check on vulnerable people, and protect pets from hot surfaces.
