The Fort Simpson Wildfire continues burning quite close to the village.

Here is the latest information from the office of the Fire Information Officer...

Fire Status: - Out Of Control

Evacuation Order is still in effect.

Location:- 7 km west of the Fort Simpson Airport

Fire Size:- 15,118+ hectares- The size is estimated based on satellite imagery and GPS tracking from a helicopter.

Weather Conditions:Temperatures are expected to reach 24 degrees with a minimum relative humidity of 40%. This morning, winds were southeast 10-15km/h and switched to south/southwest in the afternoon 15km/h gusting 40km/h.

A perimeter has been tracked of the current location of the wildfires edge using satellite and airborne GPS tracking. The entire area inside the perimeter is not completely burned, the perimeter (red line) shows where the furthest areas of wildfire are currently.

Incident Status: - The fire remains actively burning adjacent to Fort Simpson and continues to present a threat of further growth.- To reduce the threat, wildland firefighters will need to extinguish the edge of the southeast and eastern perimeter. This involves finding water source and setting up pumps and hose, using hand tools and water to extinguish the fire, and using drip torches to bring fire to the edge of machine guard or existing control lines.- With a wildfire this large, the amount of work on the eastern flank is significant for the wildland firefighting crews assigned to this wildfire.

Incident Actions:- Helicopters and skimmers are working along the southeastern and eastern flank today.- Structure protection crews continue to manage equipment on structures in the Wildrose area. - Ground crews are working along the fires edge adjacent to Wildrose and upslope of the Snye. Controlled ignitions may be used as a tactic to remove unburned fuel between the wildfire and Fort Simpson.- For Notices, Alerts, and Orders updates, visit: https://www.gov.nt.ca/.../publi.../notices-alerts-and-orders
