Connie Patterson, former president of the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association, passed away on Friday.

Patterson was best known for her incredible work in building the Dawson Creek Rodeo and Stampede into what it is today.

Patterson was dedicated to growing rodeo sports across the Peace Region. She also loved the agricultural community, including ranching and cattle farming, and had a passion for the “western way of life.”

Murray Pratt, the current president of the Dawson Creek Exhibition Association, says Patterson should be remembered as being strongly dedicated to her family and her entire community.

“Connie should be remembered as the dedicated person that she was. She has left a legacy for us to build on,” Pratt said, adding that Patterson had been a great mentor who showed him how to be a successful leader.

Denny Phipps, CEO of the Canadian Rodeo Association, says Patterson was a pillar of the rodeo community in Northern B.C.

“Her bigger-than-life personality will leave a significant hole in the rodeo world and the community of Dawson Creek,” Phipps said. “Condolences go out to her entire family and friends – she will certainly be missed.”

Patterson’s contribution was recognized in 2024 when she was named CPRA Committee Person of the Year. She was also honoured with the King’s Charles III Coronation Medal last year.

The World Professional Chuckwagon Association shared a message on social media in Patterson’s memory.

“Connie was a passionate advocate for the WPCA, standing behind our drivers and the sport. Her hard work and support will not be forgotten,” the association said. The Dawson Creek Exhibition Association is organizing funeral arrangements and legacy projects. The funeral will be open to the public.
