UFC President Dana White is stepping in to support a 12-year-old British Columbia shooting victim as she begins an aggressive journey toward recovery.

Following a post-fight press conference on April 18, White confirmed he has reached out to the family of Maya Gebala, who survived a gunshot wound to the head during a shooting in Tumbler Ridge this past February.

"I saw it on the news and I reached out to the family," White told reporters. "I would like to help in any way that I can."

Maya’s mother, Cia Edmonds, shared in a recent Facebook update that while her daughter is stable and has been moved out of intensive care at B.C. Children’s Hospital, the family is now seeking specialized private treatment in the United States.

"After many nights of research... we decided to say yes to an opportunity for an aggressive approach to her rehabilitation through privatized health care," Edmonds wrote.

White noted that while he is committed to funding the specialized treatment—which could take place at top-tier facilities in Los Angeles, Houston, or Seattle—the logistics of moving a patient for such complex care remain difficult.

"It’s not as easy as it sounds," White said. "It’s still a work in progress."

Despite the long road ahead, Edmonds reported that Maya is already "making strong strides" that have far exceeded medical expectations.
