Man with criminal history gets 1-year in jail for sexual assault

A man with a long a criminal history has been sentenced to jail for a sexual assault.

A judge sentenced Ralph Junior Achla to one year in jail after being found guilty of sexual assault.

The court heard the offense took place over a three-month period in 2017, at or near Halfway River.

With credit for time served, Achla is due to be released from custody in 4.5 months time.

Achla has been ordered to provide a DNA sample and must report to the National Sex Offender Registry for the next 20 years.

He was also handed 24 months probation and a 10-year ban from possessing a firearm.

Achla is still facing charges of uttering threats causing death, drinking and driving and obstructing a police officer.

He was on the run and wanted by Fort St. John police on two separate occasions in the past year.
