Métis Nation of BC removes president after independent review into his conduct

The Métis Nation of British Columbia has removed its president, following complaints about his behaviour.

The Board of Directors voted in favour of removing Walter Mineault, alleging he breached his fiduciary duty to the Métis Nation.

That means Mineault allegedly betrayed the financial or professional trust the Métis Nation has put in him.

“We reached this decision after careful consideration of an independent review into President Mineault’s conduct and advice and counsel given to us by our Métis Nation Governing Assembly,” the Board said.

Mineault, who is from Dawson Creek, was elected in September of 2024. He was suspended in August but was reinstated in December.

The Board says Vice President Melanie Allard had been named interim president until the next election, which will be called soon.

“Although we may go through difficult times, we are always stronger when we are together,” the Board said. “We wish Mr. Mineault best in his future endeavours.”
