“We recognize the fear and concern that such reports might cause in light of recent events,” said Corporal Marika Masters of the Chetwynd RCMP.
Chetwynd RCMP say there is no credibility to an anonymous claim that a student brought a hunting knife to the local secondary school and allegedly made “explicit threats to kill fellow students.”
An email was sent by someone using the name John Appleseed to CJDC TV News claiming there was an issue with student safety at Chetwynd Secondary Schools.
The Chetwynd RCMP said on March 6th they also received the email. Mounties said that after they concluded an investigation into a potential threat against the local secondary school, they determined it to be unfounded.
The day before RCMP issued the press release, CJDC TV News decided not to run the story, after we determined with our sources there were a number of ‘red flags’ in the email.
Chetwynd RCMP said, “Over the past several months since an incidence of school violence involving a group of students, the school has been diligently working with parents, students and staff to ensure the safety off all school users. A thorough investigation has concluded and there is no evidence to support the anonymous claims.”
The emailer also attempted to tie their claim to the recent and horrific events in Tumbler Ridge.
“We recognize the fear and concern that such reports might cause in light of recent events,” said Corporal Marika Masters of the Chetwynd RCMP. “With that in mind, we wanted to address the misinformation within the community and online by letting everyone know that the school is safe.”
The Chetwynd RCMP said they are continuing to work with the local schools to ensure continued safety.
