Teslin RCMP seize firearms, arrest two following investigation

Teslin RCMP, with assistance from the Yukon RCMP Critical Incident Program including the Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the Teslin area near the Alaska Highway on February 27, 2026. 

The investigation began on February 25, 2026, after Teslin RCMP received a report that a firearm had been discharged at an individual who attended the residence the previous day. No injuries were reported.

As a result of the search warrant, police arrested 39-year-old Matthew Levi Hamilton of Teslin, along with an adult female. The female was released on an undertaking for one count of Theft Under $5,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on April 2, 2026. During the search, police seized four bolt action firearms and ammunition. 

Matthew Hamilton was held for a bail hearing and has been charged with seven offences, including:

  • Pointing a Firearm (x2)
  • Discharge Firearm with Intent (x2)
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose (x2)
  • Theft Under $5,000

Hamilton has been remanded into custody, with his next court appearance set for March 4, 2026.
