BC Highway Patrol says it’s gearing up to catch distracted drivers and people not wearing seatbelts next month.

Highway patrol says March marks distracted driving month, and officers are rolling out campaigns to catch people on their cellphones, using their G-P-S or not wearing seatbelts, warning of hefty fines if caught.

Inspector Brian Donaldson with B-C Highway Patrol says people should resist the temptation of checking their phones while behind the wheel, rather than paying attention to the road.

Donaldson says commuters with advance warning of the ramped-up enforcement campaign should have no excuses if found using an electronic device, not wearing a seatbelt or improperly using a child car seat.
