Update to story posted 19 January:
Dawson Creek RCMP say a pedestrian who was taken to hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Monday has now died of his injuries.
The incident happened around noon on 102nd Avenue in Dawson Creek. Police say initial reports suggested the person was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
However, after being assessed, the injuries turned out to be serious. The victim was airlifted to a Vancouver hospital Tuesday morning.
Police add the victim suffered fractures to his spine and skull. There was also large laceration to one of his legs, and he was missing teeth.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene but could now be facing charges of impaired driving causing death.
The name of the driver is not being released, as charges have yet to be laid.
