Dr. Qasim Hameed Afridi, a psychiatrist trained in Pakistan and Ireland, accused the Northern Health Authority and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC of bad faith, discrimination, harassment, defamation, and constructive dismissal.
However, a BC Supreme Court judge ruled he squandered his final chance to amend his 2020 lawsuit. Justice David Crerar struck the claim after Afridi failed to follow a previous “last-chance” order from Justice Ian Caldwell. Afridi, who moved to BC in 2016 and practiced in Fort St. John under a provisional license, had ongoing conflicts with supervisors and colleagues, leading to complaints on both sides.
In May 2018, he allegedly made angry, threatening comments to a doctor, prompting Northern Health to end his sponsorship later that year. With no other supervisors available, his practice ended.
Though Afridi sued in 2020, more than five years later the case had seen little progress beyond exchanging documents and one witness examination.
