Magnitude 4.4 earthquake felt in Fort St. John, B.C.

Quake occurred roughly 62 kilometres northwest of Fort St. John on Monday, seismologists say.

Residents of Fort St. John, B.C., say they were woken up by a tremor Monday morning at 6:23 a.m. local time. 

Earthquake Canada's website reports that it occurred at a depth of five kilometres, roughly 62 kilometres northwest of the city. 

The site also states it was "lightly felt" in Fort St. John, with no reported damage and none expected.

It was recorded at a magnitude of 4.4, according to Earthquakes Canada seismologists.

Northeast B.C. has a recent history of seismic activity, with a minor earthquake this past June and four quakes of magnitude 3.1 or higher detected in a single week in February.
